Erlendur Fashion Week: Hot Fashion in Iceland

Welcome to Erlendur Fashion Week, Iceland's premier celebration of avant-garde style and sustainable design. Erlendur, meaning "foreign" in Icelandic, reflects the commitment of Erlendur Talent Agency to bridging local traditions with global influences. With the stunning backdrop of the whale museum in Reykjavík we witnessed collections that blended Iceland's rugged aesthetic with cutting-edge innovations in eco-friendly fabrics and production methods. Dovile Reibschlager, a sustainable designer based in Chicago, and Mayeth Codoy Snarøya, of the Phillipines, were two of our top picks for their innovation with fabric and texture.

Did we mention the backdrop for the shows being the Whales of Iceland Museum? Seeing these models walk a runway with whales floating above was truly jaw dropping! From volcanic-inspired textures to aurora borealis color palettes, Erlendur Fashion Week pushed boundaries while honoring Iceland’s unique cultural heritage. We invite you to explore the intersection of nature, technology, and artistry on display in Iceland this past weekend.

Dovile Reibschlager: Bubbles and Unexpected Accents

Enter Dovile’s bubble-filled universe and you are surrounded by lighter than air bubble skirts and gloves! This season’s collections were whimsical with more of a neutral palette than previous collections. Pops of silver on black and monochromatic ensembles with different bubble textures throughout were delightful. The half sleeves were just perfect on our favorite silver look, which added drama with a bubbly twist on Bridgerton gloves. Bubbles on the underpart of a skirt were a new twist also!

Dovile Reibschlager: Monochromatic Maven

The bubble sleeves were all over the runway paired with similar colored flowy fabrics, cutouts and bubble skirts. There was a look for every fashionista in this collection, with beautiful details for any fashion girl to stand out!

Mayeth Codoy Snarøya: Sculptural Details

The influence of her Norwegian training in textiles and fashion is apparent in Filipino designer Mayeth’s designs from this collection. Natural silks and cottons are sculpted to create unique silhouettes. Our favorite pieces were a stunning white gown, a shorter dress that could fit right in at the Kentucky Derby and a lovely everyday trouser and crop top look with gorgeous draping on the body.

Mayeth Codoy Snarøya: Braids and Terra Cotta Tones

Another feature in several pieces of Mayeth’s collection was the long braids incorporated into several of the garments. Since Taylor Swift’s era’s tour we’ve been loving tiny braids – they are so romantic! The terra cotta tones are complimentary on almost all skin tones and the variety of pieces (capes, dresses, trousers and even hats!) means this collection has something for everyone. These garments are all made in the Philippines, creating more jobs for that country and spreading traditional Filipino fabrics into the global fashion market.

For our first Erlendur fashion week we absolutely loved the venue, the warm people we met and the beautiful designs on the runway! With increased globalization the fashion calendar is growing and finding talented designers in non-traditional fashion weeks only shows how creativity is truly everywhere.
