Western Fashion and Baseball Caps: Some Looks From Coachella Weekend One

Coachella is always a star-studded event, from the A-list performers taking the main stage to the VIP attendees seeing them from the stands. The 2024 roster promises no shortage of star power, with buzzy acts like Ice Spice, J Balvin, and Sabrina Carpenter performing for thousands of fans in addition to this year’s big headliners, Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, and Tyler the Creator.
Celebrities are only one element at Coachella, where brand activations, parties, and musical performances are in no short supply. Another is the usually extravagant nature of fashion. This was the case last weekend when Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift and Lana del Ray’s outfits stood out—some for their extravagant flair, some for their luxury, and a couple for their startling simplicity.

Sabrina Carpenter

The 24-year-old Sabrina Carpenter made her festival debut on Friday, April 12, at the Indigo, California, event. She paid tribute to the late designer, who passed on the same day, by entering the stage wearing two unique Roberto Cavalli outfits. She accessorized the custom pieces with unforgettable glam. The metallic jacket featuring a leopard print design was absolutely stunning! Carpenter looked every inch the rockstar with a pleated, short skirt and a shimmering silver tank top. The skirt swirled up to reveal her bedazzled underwear as she performed, and the tank's daringly low sides showed off a hint of her lace bra. Brown boots, designed by Cavalli as well, completed the ensemble.

Kendall Jenner

The distinctive bohemian style of Kendall Jenner was absent this year at Coachella. The model opened the weekend in a quiet luxury outfit typical for festival wear. Jenner in Palm Springs, California, sponsored a FWRD event. The model wore a bodycon maxi dress by Tove, which was the ideal hue of Malbec red. Her dress had a fairly plain style that flared somewhat at the bottom and a plunging halter neckline. Jenner accessorized her look with The Row's burgundy sling bag and strappy black heels. Not the boho chic details we’ve come to expect from Jenner, but a more elegant look suits her!

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift also made an appearance in Indio, California. She and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, attended the Neon Carnival after-party on Saturday. Swift chose a low-key look for the event, dressing entirely in black and accessorizing with a baseball cap. For the Neon Carnival, Swift wore a worn-out black T-shirt with a patent leather jacket with white accents on the underarms. Her costume featured the Halara Breezeful Pleated Buckle Skirt, a well-liked pleated skort with an adjustable buckle garter, featured on TikTok because of its versatile and athletic design.

Billie Eilish

The day following her two-song performance with Friday night's headlining act Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish was back in the desert for a semi-secret DJ set at the Do Lab. Though she did give a sneak peek at a few new songs from her next album, it was more notable for the enthusiasm that even a brief glimpse of Eilish arouses in her fan base. Before she and her entourage of about twenty people took to the Do Lab's modest stage, the space was crowded with anticipation. While the DJs played, she danced with her crew. Dressed in a basketball jersey and trucker hat, Eilish danced a little, smiled, and generally blended into the dim red lights and swirling smoke that surrounded the gathering.

Doja Cat

Doja Cat came out with a bang! She first entered the stage donning a butt-hitting platinum blonde wig that would have made for a memorable appearance on Game of Thrones, along with sneakers and a white hazmat suit. For her next look she undressed to show a nude fishnet bodysuit in classic Doja Cat style and then changed into a pair of incredibly hair-raising boots that appeared to be covered in the same blond extensions as her head.

Lana del Rey

Lana wowed the audience in a shimmering periwinkle blue Dolce & Gabbana dress featuring a pleated design in the skirt and a midriff cutout. The "Black Beauty" singer accessorized her ensemble with a pair of Christian Louboutin's iconic red bottoms and sparkly silver boots with a spiked heel. In classic Lana style, her hair was worn down and curled in delicate waves. The most unexpected element about Del Rey this year was the special guest she invited to the stage. The 22-year-old singer of "Happier Than Ever" wore jeans and a plaid shirt when she joined Del Rey onstage for the duets of "Ocean Eyes" and "Video Games." This year, her Coachella ensemble mirrored the understated look she opted for when she went to the Grammys with her longtime friend Taylor Swift back in February. She displayed a more sensual look at the annual music awards, sporting a black dress embellished with flowery flocking and an abundance of black bows on her shoes, gloves, and hair.

Coachella 2024 featured a wide variety of looks, from extravagant to modest, in a spectacular display of Western Fashion and Baseball Caps design. Every outfit made a statement, from Kendall Jenner's understated elegance with Tove and The Row to Sabrina Carpenter's stunning Roberto Cavalli ensembles. The fashion scene ran the gamut from casual chic to sparkly glam! The glittering elegance of Lana Del Rey and the audacious outfit changes of Doja Cat enhanced the overall fashion theme of the festival. Coachella has once again shown itself to be a creative and unique melting pot in the world of fashion in the West.
