Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation’s 27th Annual Angel Ball Raises $3 Million for Cancer Research

Beneath the golden glow of Cipriani Wall Street, New York’s creative and philanthropic circles gathered for an unforgettable evening of music, purpose, and generosity.

Under the marble archways of Cipriani Wall Street, the 27th Annual Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation Angel Ball unfolded as one of the city’s most anticipated events of the season. Hosted by Gayle King, the black-tie gala brought together leaders from philanthropy, fashion, and entertainment, raising an extraordinary $3 million in support of life-changing cancer research. It was an evening that reflected New York’s enduring glamour and heart, elegant and deeply human.

Founded by songwriter Denise Rich in memory of her daughter, Gabrielle Rich Aouad, who passed away from leukemia at twenty-seven, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research has become a cornerstone of medical innovation. Since its inception in 1996, the Foundation has awarded more than $45 million in grants to early-career scientists developing less toxic treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, and related blood cancers. With more than eighty-eight cents of every dollar raised directly funding research, the organization stands as one of the nation’s most impactful private funders of cancer science.

Cipriani’s vaulted ceilings and flickering candlelight set the stage for an evening of elegance that felt both intimate and grand. Among those in attendance were designer Dennis Basso, singer Mary J. Blige, Real Housewives of New York City star Ubah Hassan, and philanthropist Jackie Siegel. The guest list reflected the diversity of New York’s cultural sphere, from fashion icons to business leaders, all bound by a shared belief in the power of giving. Conversations flowed easily between champagne toasts and quiet moments of reflection, framed by the ballroom’s golden light.

Emceed with warmth and wit by Gayle King, the evening honored Tina Knowles, Skye and Don Rufus Hankey, and Amy Green for their philanthropic leadership and humanitarian achievements. Mayor Eric Adams addressed attendees, praising the Foundation’s continued investment in cancer research and its role in advancing medical equity across New York and beyond. In one of the night’s most poignant moments, content creator Caitlin Murray shared her son’s story of leukemia remission, a reminder of the personal lives touched by every grant funded.

The live auction, led by Jamie McDonald, offered once-in-a-lifetime experiences and treasures: a custom jewelry piece by Lorraine Schwartz, a private island buyout at Four Seasons Naviva in Punta Mita, a wellness retreat at Clinique La Prairie in Montreux, and original artwork by Paul Rousso and Hunt Slonem. Each bid carried a sense of purpose, culminating in a record-setting total that underscored the Foundation’s reach and impact.

The entertainment reflected the event’s signature fusion of artistry and soul. Tony Award nominee Montego Glover opened with a graceful rendition of Moon River, followed by Paul Russell, whose Lil Boo Thang energized the ballroom. Ja Rule brought the crowd to its feet with a medley of classics including Always on Time and Livin’ It Up, before the incomparable Patti LaBelle closed the evening with On My Own and Lady Marmalade, her voice filling the historic space with emotion and joy.

As the final notes faded and applause rose through the hall, it was clear that the Angel Ball had once again achieved more than its philanthropic goal. It reminded New York, and the world, that beauty and generosity can coexist in equal measure. Through music, storytelling, and shared purpose, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation continues to turn loss into legacy, channeling compassion into research that saves lives and shapes the future of cancer treatment.
