Sun’s Out, Shoes Out: The Summer Shoe Edit

Whether you’re spending this summer in the city or in the country, here are the must-have shoes for the season.

When it comes to flip-flops, I believe you can’t go wrong with a pair of TKEES. The nude colorways and leather soles are perfect for classic and sleek resort wear. Lounge by the pool or grab them for the beach club. These thonged ones from Staud, available in both flat and heeled versions, are also very flattering and can be paired with capri pants or a Pucci set any day.

Channel Brigitte Bardot in these beautiful ballet flats from Repetto, or opt for funkier pairs from Larroude or Loeffler Randall. Perfect for a casual outing and even better for an elegant evening, you just can’t go wrong with these patent leather slippers.

If you prefer a pop of color or a monochrome shoe, Repetto offers a French girl classic palette for minimalists. On the other hand, Larroude’s selection is the go-to for eclectic styles, featuring fun accents like lobsters, while Loeffler Randall delivers with funky mirrored suede shoes. The Ginger Gingham style brings cottagecore farmhouse charm to your wardrobe, with a blue-and-white checkered pattern perfect for a New England escape. For those hopping on the mesh trend, try one of Iro’s colorful editions.

Conquer the shops and cobblestone streets of the city in sneakers that keep you comfortable while looking chic. Whether paired with jean shorts and a loose shirt or a sophisticated, fluffy tulle skirt, they’re the perfect transformable pair to own where concrete streets meet your feet.

Travelers exploring historical cities’ steep hills and long boulevards on vacations abroad will thank their shoes after a long day of walking. Try the effortlessly cool Puma Speedcats or the pillowy original ON Cloudtilt. Larroude’s Stalla sneakers bring cozy-chic appeal while offering agility and support. For a sleek, minimalist option, I recommend the Minimal Leather Trainers from COS.

Summer should be practical as well as beautiful, and a pair of these sandals will transport you to evening promenades by the sandy beach, bike rides along a breezy lake, or lunches of fresh lobster rolls at the shack or pasta in the piazza. Try the beautifully metal-accented Rebecca Minkoffs or the color-blocked, leather-trimmed pair from Amanu. Another great summer flat is the boat loafer. These light-blue ones from Aurelian are perfectly elegant for all occasions, all while providing your feet with soft cushioning.

These floral kitten heels and a limoncello are all I need. The beaded accents on Staud’s Brigitte Mule showcase intricate handmade quality, while the gorgeous floral motifs are subtle enough to pair with everything, without ever feeling basic.

From Loeffler Randall, the Priscilla red moiré heels and bowed Margot pumps deliver just the right degree of “extra” for fun summer soirées. The sandy-neutral Odessa Dune shoe will elevate any outfit, and for a sensual pop of color, Larroude’s scarlet stunners are unmatched. These shoes are perfect for a summer night at a European disco or a drink with friends.

It’s not summer dressing without an espadrille. Whether you prefer a wedged or flat version, these woven beauties can be dressed up or down. The Angelina red moiré bow wedge offers a twist on the classic shape, with a dramatic, colorful bow ready to add a pop of vibrance to any outfit. The gorgeous and versatile Calla Espadrilles from Staud are reminiscent of ballet flats, making them an easy choice for effortless summer style.

We still have a bit of time until fall, but since it will be here before we know it, the burgundy Suki platform loafers from Larroude are the perfect transition shoe from August to September. These chunky beauties are ideal for going straight from the office to a post-work dinner with friends.
